Good afternoon Visual Arts parents, guardians and students!

Thank you to all who attended our first meeting on Tuesday. If you weren't able to attend or would like a recap, you can download the agenda and handout.

EXHIBITS AND RECEPTIONS

The Studio Selections exhibit, featuring works by 10th-12th grade students, will be in the Hudson Gallery from September 9-27. The opening reception is this Thursday, September 12 from 5-7 p.m. in the Hudson Gallery. It is free and open to the public so invite your family and friends to celebrate and support our students.

It is opening night of the all-school musical On Your Feet so encourage those attending the musical to come early and stop by the gallery before seeing the show.

Upcoming receptions include:

  • New Works, October 17
  • Senior Showcase, November 21
  • National Art Honor Society, December 12
OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS

Students should continually check the board on the first floor outside Mr. Clark's room and the digital call board for the latest on contests, workshops and scholarships for visual arts students.

Upcoming deadlines include:

  • Wednesday, September 11: Artist Trading Cards for the Booker T. vending machine
  • Monday, September 16: Dia de Muertos exhibit at Bath House Cultural Center call for entries
  • Sunday, September 29: National Portfolio Day - Dallas at SMU
OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARENTS

We would love to plug more parent volunteers into the Visual Arts Guild. There are a wide variety of opportunities and needs. If you want to volunteer from home or on campus, on a committee or as a committee chair, short-term or year-long - we have something for you. Here is a quick snapshot of the Visual Arts Guild. Any entries with an * have a committee chair or member, but we always need volunteers. Email us if you are interested in any role. And if you would like to offer something you don't see on the chart, let us know!

Upcoming volunteer needs are:

Monday, September 30: On Portfolio Day we host college reps visiting BTW to review portfolios and talk with students about post-BTW plans. We provide breakfast and lunch to our faculty and guests. Volunteers and donations are appreciated!

November 1-8: We're looking for 10-12 drivers to deliver Young American Talent materials to participating schools in North Texas. Deliveries are done during the school day so the volunteer can hand deliver the materials to the campus. YAT Chair Kay Wood will contact volunteers about their delivery route.

Coming up! Our next reception is Thursday, October 17 and College Showcase is November 21-22.

NORTH TEXAS GIVING DAY

Did you know that the Visual Arts Guild funded 22 student grant applications last year (and four so far in the 2024-25 school year). We pay for art supplies and resources not covered by the school or district budget including clay, canvas, paint, brushes, sketchbooks, and film. The only requirement is that the student or a parent be a guild member.

When you donate to the Visual Arts Guild's North Texas Giving Day campaign, 100% of your donation helps us continue to support our faculty and students.

Why donate to the Visual Arts Guild?

  • We are nurturing the next generation of artists and creatives.
  • We are fostering a more inclusive and vibrant arts community.
  • We are helping students pursue artistic endeavors with fewer financial burdens.

Thank you for helping visual artists flourish at Booker T.
