Good afternoon Visual Arts Guild! Thank you to everyone who joined us at the social on Tuesday, October 22. And special thanks to Kayli House for hosting us at Oil & Cotton and for our social chair Jennifer Blankenship, who planned the event and provided the food.

Quick reminders - the Class of 2027 Spirit Night at Jason's Deli is tonight (details below), DASH Week starts tomorrow (daily themes below), and Booker T LIVE is tomorrow night.

STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES

Students, be sure to check the digital call board for the latest opportunities, contests and workshops.

This week:

  • Juniors and seniors are encouraged to enter one piece into the Blueprint Gallery's 7th annual Dallas Young Artist Exhibition. Prizes up to $5000 are awarded. Get the details and submit before 4 p.m. on November 14
  • Applications for the annual Visual Arts Winter Market are now open through November 12. Check out the online form for all the details and requirements. The market will be December 11-13 from 12-1:30 p.m. throughout the Zero Floor. All students are eligible to participate but space is limited.
  • The Visual Arts Guild is looking for 8-10 students to design a small holiday card for the Visual Arts Winter Market. Designs must be 5.5" x 4" or 5.5" x 4" or smaller and should include a winter or holiday theme or design. Submit your designs to btwvisualarts@gmail.com by November 22.
AURORA DALLAS

Faculty member Jessica Bell and the students in her digital art and art & business class have been busy creating works for the next AURORA, a Dallas-based public arts organization that combines art, technology and community and will feature video projections, performances and interactive art experiences at Dallas City Hall on November 16 from 7 p.m. - 1 a.m.

We are looking for volunteers after school on November 15 to move student work from BTW to Dallas City. If you have a truck, trailer or large SUV and are willing to help, we need to move large coral sculptures, a over-sized jellyfish (6x5 feet) and more. We also will need help on site setting up the art and lighting. Starting at midnight on November 16, volunteers are needed to tear down the installation and return it to BTW.

Email btwvisualarts@gmail.com if you have a vehicle and/or can volunteer in any capacity. Thank you for your help with this exciting opportunity!

COLLEGE SHOWCASE

College Showcase is November 21-22. This annual event brings educators, professionals and college representatives to our campus to present master classes, talk with students and review portfolios.

If you can volunteer:

If you can donate:

  • We have an Amazon Wishlist of items needed to decorate the student hospitality suite. Every year we decorate the FabLab for seniors to eat lunch, hang with friends, and take a break from the busyness of College Showcase. Items purchased from the list are shipped directly so you don't have to pick them up or deliver them to school.
  • Monetary donations are also welcome.

If you have connections:

  • We have College Showcase sponsorships that start at $500. Showcase sponsors help provide meals, snacks and gift bags to our faculty, students, college reps and guests. In exchange, sponsors will have their name or business name and logo on our website, newsletter and any Showcase collateral.

If you are a 9-11th grade parent, please consider volunteering. We like our senior parents to be able to enjoy the week with their students whenever possible. Thank you for supporting this exciting annual event!
