Good afternoon Visual Arts parents, students and supporters! Here's a quick rundown on events and news for next week. In this newsletter:

• Tuesday's Visual Arts Guild meeting has been moved to Zoom. Join the meeting from 7:30-8 p.m. (Meeting ID: 767 4326 2520 | Passcode: cDKx4s)
• 5x7 Art Sale is Thursday, January 18: Attend, volunteer or donate

In anticipation of inclement weather on Tuesday, January 16, we will have a virtual Visual Arts Guild meeting at 7:30 p.m. rather than meet in person after the PTSA. As of this email, the PTSA is still meeting at 6 p.m. but the meeting has been moved to the library to accommodate the audition workshop in the Commons.

Hope to see you Thursday, January 18 for the 5x7 Art Sale. Admission is free. We'll provide light bites. Drinks will be available for purchase. Doors open at 7 p.m. The Art Sale begins promptly at 8 p.m. Booker T band Flamingo Tree will play throughout the evening. 

Share the invite with family, friends, neighbors, potential Booker T students. It's going to be a great evening!

The first Senior Show of the school year runs January 16 - February 2 and the opening reception is Thursday, January 25 from 5-7 p.m. 

If you want to donate refreshments or volunteer at a reception, see the Visual Arts Guild website for details.

Auditions for the 2024-25 school year are Saturday, January 27 and Saturday, February 3. The guild monitors a table and provides refreshments for auditioning students. Get the details and sign up to volunteer or donate. It's a casual, fun opportunity to help out and get a glimpse of next year's Pegasi! Parents and students are welcome to volunteer.

• Check out the online call board for the latest contests and opportunities.
• The deadline to submit artwork for the African American Heritage Festival student artwork contest is January 21. See the PTSA website for details and submission instructions. Email btwhspvaptsa@gmail.com with issues or questions.
• The deadline to submit artwork for Young American Talent is March 1. See the guild website for details on YAT. DISD students can waive the application fee for up to three pieces with the code DISD2024.
• Seniors - confirm your Visual Arts Guild membership to ensure you are eligible for one of the five, $1,500 Visual Arts Guild scholarships awarded at the senior dinner in May (date TBA). Also, check the Class of 2024 page on the PTSA website for newly announced dates of spring senior events.

Check the guild website and social media for details but keep an eye out for information on these events for second semester:

• No school Monday, February 19
• The African American Heritage Festival is February 22-23. The artwork contest is open through January 21.
• Spring break is March 11-15
• Saturday, April 13 is I Am Booker T Day

We have these events scheduled in the spring semester. Look for sign ups and details as we get closer. We appreciate all the volunteer support!
