Good afternoon Visual Arts students, parents and supporters!

Don't forget - tomorrow is our social at Oil & Cotton (2313 Beatrice St Suite #100, Dallas, TX 75208). Parents/guardians of new and current students are invited to join us from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. to meet other Visual Arts families, enjoy light bites and beverages, and hear news and updates from the guild. We have a few fun raffle prizes for those in attendance so please stop by!

SENIOR NEWS

Seniors can apply for one of five $1500 Visual Arts Guild scholarships awarded at the senior dinner. Completed applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 2. See the online application for eligibility and requirements.

The deadline to RSVP for the May 19 senior dinner is April 27. Even if you can't attend, please RSVP so we can plan accordingly.

FACULTY APPRECIATION WEEK

May 5-9 is Teacher Appreciation Week. The guilds and PTSA are each taking a day to recognize all our faculty and staff, and our day is Tuesday, May 6. During lunch we are going to have plants and all the ingredients for faculty to pot their own plant. We'll also have snacks to distribute. Volunteers will set up, help pot plants, distribute snacks, and clean up. With approval, students are welcome to help during their lunch hour. Weather permitting, we'll be in the Green Room. Check the sign up and volunteer or donate today.

SENIOR DINNER MAY 19

The Visual Arts Guild hosts a seated dinner for its seniors. Volunteers are needed to help set up, serve, distribute senior gifts, and clean up. We appreciate underclassmen parents and students who volunteer so our senior parents can enjoy the dinner with their students. See the sign up for details. Email btwvisualarts.com with any questions.

SENIOR SHOW #4

Limerence, our final senior show of the 2024-25 school year, is in the Hudson Gallery through April. Congratulations to our final group of seniors - Bianca Barrera, Arabella Brindley, Amariah Cannon, Dana Castillo, Brenna Murphy Finley, Sidney Palomo Flores, Andrea Grimaldo, Cori Johnson, Phoebe Martin, Julian Padilla, Dax Piburn, Amanda Reid, and Bee Vazquez.

Next up - Young American Talent. Volunteers are needed to help collect and install art on May 5-6, and help finalists pick up their art on Saturday, May 17. And we appreciate volunteers and snack donations for the May 8 reception. This is typically our largest reception since we are hosting families from all over north Texas. Please note the time change; this reception is from 6-8 p.m. with the awards ceremony at 7 p.m.

AROUND BTW
  • There is no school Friday, May 2.
  • The final PTSA meeting of the 2024-25 school year is Tuesday, May 6. PTSA will celebrate its members and volunteers, and award this year's Life Memberships.
  • Creations is the final cross-conservatory production of the year. Stay tuned for details on a student preview or see the free performance Friday, May 9.
  • The Class of 2025 graduates on Sunday, May 25 at 5 p.m. If you haven't seen a Booker T graduation, you should stream the service from the DISD website.
LOOKING AHEAD

The school has released the dates for 2025-26 Pegasus Pick Up. If you are new to BTW, Pegasus Pick Up is the annual registration/orientation event where students get their schedules, talk with their conservatory director, take yearbook and badge photos, and get lockers and parking. It's also a second chance to join the PTSA and your conservatory guild. Parents are encouraged to attend with their students (especially underclassmen).

Students who are new to BTW in any grade have the opportunity to attend Flight School during the morning session on Friday, August 1. During Flight School students will get oriented with the school and their schedule, meet classmates and faculty, and learn about the typical day of a BTW student. Flight School is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended.

  • Wednesday, July 30: Pegasus Pick Up for rising juniors (Class of 2027) and seniors (Class of 2026)
  • Thursday, July 31: Pegasus Pick Up for rising sophomores (Class of 2028)
  • Friday, August 1: Flight School (morning session), Pegasus Pick Up for rising freshman (afternoon session)
  • The first day of school is Tuesday, August 12.

We will share info as it becomes available, and the school will send additional information over the summer. Please consider joining the PTSA and the Visual Arts Guild so you are receiving the latest information.
